Emma Graves, Head of HR at Absolute Works tells us how CIPD has been essential to her career development.

I am the Head of HR at Absolute Works with a BA in Human Resources, CIPD qualification and over 18 years experience of working in the HR field.

My passion for HR started when I completed work experience at Fords Manufacturing in their Personnel department.  I then did a BA Honours in Human Resources at university.  Throughout my degree, I became aware of the importance of CIPD and how recognised the accreditation is within the HR arena. Even with a high classification degree in HR, there was still a need to have this degree benchmarked against the CIPD qualification.   I completed my CIPD qualification through night school at university.

Two of the advisors in my current HR team at Absolute Works, have completed their CIPD qualification through distance learning alongside their day jobs.

I have worked across many industries including manufacturing, services, engineering, retail and consultancy and also locally as well as internationally and all of the companies I have worked for recognise this qualification as important.

I feel that being affiliated with the CIPD has helped me reach this point in my career.

When recruiting I primarily look for candidates that are either CIPD qualified or working towards a CIPD qualification.  This demonstrates that they meet the standards of the CIPD and that they are committed to their HR career.
