Toxic employees not only fail to do their job well, but they can drag down the people around them, too. They may disrupt productivity, cause conflict, or leave their team with poor morale.

When this happens, it’s time to do something about the problem. Fast.

Start by finding out more about their poor behaviour. Perhaps they’ve done something that constitutes gross misconduct, and that could result in instant dismissal. Otherwise, investigate their behaviour and start a disciplinary procedure.

You may find that they’re unaware of their behaviour and make a positive change after being spoken to. However, if they’re truly toxic it’s time to dismiss the employee.

Make sure you follow your policies and procedures by the book, as well as adhering to both employment law and the ACAS code of conduct, to avoid landing yourself in any hot water!
