The Carers’ Leave Act 2023 came into effect on 6 April 2024. This allow carers to take up to 1 week of unpaid leave per year to address issues relating to a long term care need. This is defined as an illness or injury which requires care for more than 3 months, a disability or issues relating to old age.

The leave does not have to be taken as a 1 week block. It can be taken as half days or full days.

The care must be for a dependent; a spouse, civil partner, child, parent, person who lives in the same house as the employee (but not a tenant, boarder or lodger) or anyone who relies on the employee for care.

If you didn’t know about this and your procedures and policies do not take account of it then get in touch with a member of the team by completing the form here or calling 03332005153
