In December 2021, the Government announced a temporary extension to the number of days an employee could self-certificate from work. This was extended from the normal 7 days to 28 days to free up GP’s to assist with COVID19 booster vaccine rollout.
Any sickness absence that started between the 10th December 2021 and 26th January 2022 can continue to be self-certificated for up to 28 days. For absences that started on or after the 27th January 2022, the normal 7 days self-certification rules apply.
