Founder and CEO Joy May has a wealth of expertise holding various Directorships, specialising in HR & Operations. Whilst Managing Director Amy Martin (Joy’s daughter) is CIPD qualified and a former solicitor practising latterly in employment law.
Absolute Works have a team of experienced HR and employment law professionals from a variety of backgrounds. First and foremost, Absolute Works is a HR consultancy working with clients providing advice, documentation, full HR administration services, Tribunal & ACAS support services, projects and training. Other services that we provide include; Payroll bureau, HR Portal, H&S audits and advice, E-Learning. In 2017 due to the commitment to training and development the Apprenticeship Division was launched and as an approved Apprenticeship Provider provides apprenticeships for levy and non-levy business. Absolute Works offer a diverse range of apprenticeship training and work in partnership with employers ensuring the training aligns with the needs of both business and the apprentices.
Absolute Works is delighted to welcome Tom Young to the team as Apprenticeship Business Development Manager. Tom has a wealth of experience in the apprenticeship sector, starting his own career as an apprentice in a small family run business, quickly gaining experience in day to day business operations before spending time in the Civil Service and then moving to support SME’s as a Business Advisor with Business Link. Stepping into the apprenticeship field almost ten years ago, Tom hasn’t looked back.
Tom has supported SME’s and Large Employers alike to set up their apprenticeships from the ground up, creating bespoke programmes, supporting with screening and recruitment of high calibre candidates. Assisting and guiding businesses and apprentices to achieve success through an engaging learning journey.
Joy says “Tom’s knowledge and experience will be invaluable in supporting our Apprenticeship Division to grow and go from strength to strength, we are very pleased that Tom has joined us and we look forward to seeing him develop his role with us.”
On the 8th July 2020 the Chancellor made some recent announcements that will have a huge impact on providing opportunities for young people. Tom explains;
“With the economic uncertainty and the unfortunate circumstances where some businesses are having to let staff go, the recent announcement by the Chancellor is a positive step to support businesses who may be able to offer new opportunities to those who may have found themselves at risk of or having been made redundant due to the fallout of Covid-19.
With reports advising younger jobseekers are amongst the worst hit due to the Covid-19 crisis, the announcement of new support for businesses who are able to offer new apprenticeships, should provide excellent opportunities for those seeking employment via an apprenticeship where new knowledge, skills and behaviours can be gained resulting in positive outcomes for both the apprentice and the employer.
Businesses will be given £2000 for each new apprentice they hire under the age of 25. This is in addition to the existing £1000 payment the Government already provides for new 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged under 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan.
In addition, it was announced that if a business were to take on a new apprentice over the age of 25, the business would be given £1500 for each apprentice.
For a business to benefit from the payment, the new apprentice must begin their employment or their apprenticeship with the business between August 2020 and January 2021.
